The Mechanical Engineering Department of Bangladesh Army University of Science and Technology (BAUST), Saidpur, has added another milestone to its growing reputation in engineering and innovation. A student team named ‘Mecha Bots’ has emerged as the National Champion in the Robotics Sumo Competition at the National Science Fiction Fair 2.0, demonstrating exceptional technical expertise, creativity, and teamwork.
The competition was held on 21 July 2026 at Khwaja Yunus Ali University in Sirajganj, where teams from universities across Bangladesh competed in one of the country’s most exciting robotics contests. In the Robotics Sumo event, autonomous or remotely controlled robots compete inside a circular arena, attempting to push their opponents out of the ring—a challenge that demands precision engineering, intelligent design, and strategic control.
Facing strong competition from some of the nation’s brightest young engineers, BAUST’s Mecha Bots displayed outstanding performance throughout the tournament to secure the championship title. The victory reflects not only the team’s technical excellence but also the university’s growing emphasis on practical engineering education and research-driven innovation.
This is not the team’s first national achievement. Earlier, Mecha Bots earned the position of Second Runner-up in the Battle Bot Competition at the IUT Techathlon National and Rover Summit, proving that their recent success is the result of continuous hard work and steady improvement rather than a one-time accomplishment.
Robot sumo competitions have become increasingly popular worldwide as they provide students with practical experience in mechanical design, electronics, embedded systems, programming, sensor integration, and real-time decision-making. These competitions encourage participants to transform classroom knowledge into real-world engineering solutions while strengthening teamwork, problem-solving abilities, and innovation.
BAUST authorities congratulated the team on their remarkable achievement, describing it as a shining example of the university’s commitment to producing technologically skilled graduates capable of competing at the national level.
