The coronavirus pandemic has caused hundreds of unemployment in Bangladesh and all around the world. For some people, there is literally no source of income as they have been kicked out of their work. People are struggling with paying for their daily needs and wants. People cannot afford food, as the price of the ingredients have become higher due to the pandemic
The pandemic has caused a rising concern over people’s incomes. Those jobs who did not kick employees out, are paying only half of the payment they were supposed to provide. Other working jobs are not paying the employees at all, even though, they are making the workers work full time. This is really concerning and troubling in the daily people’s lives.
The workers, however are getting demotivated because of the sudden change in their salary. They demand full salary due to the immense workload they have. But the employers are stubborn and not listening to the full time employees. It is causing a huge gap between employer employee relationship.
A valid concern about the workers are that they need to feed themselves and their family but failing to do so due to lack of income. They are even leaving their jobs and become unemployed due to this.
Unemployment has been going on since the start of the pandemic. In my opinion, the government should take steps in covering the expenses of its country’s citizens. It should provide a monthly wage to the incomeless families. However, another concern is the safety of the citizens.
Government should provide certain safety measures such as k95 masks and educate them about safety. I’m sure in this way, many countries would be educated and safe not increasing the pandemic any longer.

Dealing with academic life.
Our academic life consists of innumerable examinations . Have we ever thought what is the sole purpose of attending exams ? Basically an exam is a formal test that we take to show our knowledge or ability in a particular subject, or to obtain a qualification.
Academic exams are something which we face very often in our student life . Although with the course of time , exams have become an integral part , we sometimes fail to cope up with exam stress . Due to society pressure , peer pressure and family pressure exam has turned into a scary test for us .
I asked a friend of mine to state her opinion on this . She said , “For me dealing with exams has always been stressful. Frankly speaking, exams emphasize more on testing our memory rather than our intelligence. There are times when I had prepared well for exams but unfortunately I forgot many things while writing my answer script. Again sometimes staring at the question paper I got panic attacks. I think the main reason behind this is the fact we get pressurized from our family or teachers.”
Like she said there is a huge pressure of getting the perfect GPA score in board exams . So it is very important to know how to deal with this pressure effectively . Here are a few helpful tips to follow if you are a student .
1) Set up a routine:-
Having a proper routine will inevitably make your day productive . When we create a routine we have to keep in mind that the routine needs to be flexible , more elaborately speaking the routine needs to be such which fits with our lifestyle perfectly . There are various time management techniques we can easily find on the internet . For eg ;The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. The technique uses a timer to break down work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks . Many students have found this particular technique to be very helpful for them .
2) Avoid spending too much time on social media :-
We live in an age where social media has become the icon of our lives . It has bought the world closer , no doubt about that . But with the rise of social media people are now getting more and more addicted to their phone. Science shows that excessive use of any modern device has an alarming effect on human body . Medical researchers continue to examine any health risks associated with mobile phone use. Research has focused on germs, traffic accidents, cancer, electromagnetic radiation, and health effects such as changes in brain activity and sleep patterns.
3) Study through the Internet :- In Bangladesh there are various online schools like 10 min school , Onnorokompathshala , Neuron plus etc . They have a collection of videos on YouTube which are completely free . Students now can get a lot of help through online classes and tutorials .
(4)Develop ethics :- Patience and sincerity towards your academic life will bring the greatest change in your life . We have to always remember that a person with a sincere mindset becomes more successful than a person with dishonest intention. There is no alternative of hardwork when it comes to qualifications . Never give up working hard . Your hardwork and dedication will find it’s way out in life.
(5) Make friends carefully :-
Your surrounding will be comprised of the friends you make in your academic life . It’s upto you to differentiate between right and wrong in this regard. Staying in a positive environment will help you stay positive during your stressful days .
(6) Exercise regularly :-
Even a 30 mins simple cardio or a walk will help our blood circulation to increase and keep us feeling energetic throughout the whole day .
(7) Meditate to increase concentration :-
Paying keen attention to your class lectures is a very important part of student life . Many students have difficulty concentrating for a specific period of time . Consistent meditation and yoga helps to relax the body and mind .
(8)Participate in extra curricular activities :-
Qualities like leadership and experience can be achieved through participating in various cultural and extra curricular activities .
(9) Develop a habit of reading books :-
In order to rejuvenate yourself sometimes it is better to read books other than your academic ones on your spare time . Make sure to never forget that books are a man’s best friend.
(9) Follow the advice of inspirational people :-
It is very important to follow inspirational people to boost up our determination .
Lastly the most important thing in student life is confidence . There will be very tough and stressful times in our student life . But we can easily overcome it through putting efforts in the best way possible . At the end of the day everyone has different techniques and strategies with which they can improve their abilities . We need to find out ways to gather and simplify information in order to understand it better .
A very debatable and first world problem is racism . Very harsh truth is, racism is instilled in us from our childhood. If we dig a bit deeper we will learn that society is held responsible for it . But what does it mean by the term “ society “? Society consists of us .
A particular way of thinking is prevalent in us which has been passed down through generations . That way of thinking develops into our mentality . Our mentality is reflected clearly in every part of our life later on . Mentality actually puts our perception and understanding ability within a limited range and it leads to our selective taste and picking favorites .
It leads to us having our very own definition of “beautiful vs ugly “ . It leads to various materialistic society standards . If they are not fulfilled we start criticizing and complaining . Every country has its own society standards . In our country Bangladesh , the most common mentality reflection is that we prefer fair skinned people over dark skinned people . Dark skin is considered as a disadvantage .
This is why many dark skinned people try various ways to bleach their skin . Asia is considered to be the largest consumer market of skin lightening and fairness products . These whitening products lead to decrease in melanin production and increase risks like skin irritations , allergy and deadly skin cancer .
In whitening products ingredients like mercury, steroids , BHT, BHA, Dioxane, Fragrance needs to be watched out as they can be toxic for your skin . Yet people are still buying these products because they are not confident to be themselves .
Body shaming has also been a prominent topic all over the world . Females are especially vulnerable to this topic since we are being bombarded with perfect body goals and unrealistic standards all over social media . Young girls are getting insecure day by day and are choosing to starve to get their ideal body and look like their favorite model. They are in a constant pressure to lose weight by society also.
Instead of this approach, a proper healthy diet and healthy lifestyle needs to be promoted more . A healthy lifestyle will help us improve our metabolism , strength , energy and make us happier as a person . Just like this , beauty standards are leading people to have low self esteem and mental issues . Teenagers are more affected to matters like this .
Discrimination related to social class is also an extremely common scenario here . People are judged openly for their economic and lifestyle status in every sector including institutions , workplace , gatherings etc . It plays a vital role and affects the social relation . People are treated differently based on their social and economic status . People with lower income range especially laborers are being insulted and exploited financially by their privileged owner .
Even though we are a nation where people of different religion and culture are living together harmoniously , our perspective needs to change a lot and we still have a long way to go in this journey of optimistic development and lifestyle change .
If you want to influence someone, make them feel the complete opposite of what they are feeling right now. If they are angry, make them laugh somehow. If sad, then again, make them laugh. And bam! They are into you. Something significant happens when someone’s emotional state is shifted suddenly and rapidly. It feels hypnotic. We feel drawn toward the things, persons that/who shift our mood instantly.
Amygdala is the part of the brain that receives emotional drifts. Amygdala is the most primitive part of our brain that allows us to remember feeling something in a certain place or phase. It is the part of the brain that is responsible for the automatic responses and snap judgments we make. Amygdala hardly reasons with careful logic, it just remembers the feeling and causes us (humans) to respond to the feeling.
When you explain your misery and at the same time, you laugh about the drama of it all, that is what you do to the other person. You have them hooked (toward you). And since the amygdala doesn’t question too much, before they even know it, they are attracted to you. Having a sense of humor goes a long way when it comes to influencing others and even yourself.
Corporates know it very well. Some even have a job title like “Grief Expert” in their HR Department!
Another favorite movie of mine “Terminator 3” had a dialogue that was somewhat an inspiration for this article. “Anger is more useful than despair.”
Luckily youtube has the scene cut out for you
You get the idea.
Any emotion but despair is useful. Comedy is clearly more productive than grief.
One of my favorite movies “Shawshank Redemption” had a dialogue that really hit me. “Get busy living or get busy dying.”
Learning to move on and get on with your life is the best thing you can give yourself. “When we are no longer able to change a situation – we are challenged to change ourselves.” – Viktor E. Frankl
A highly effective person refuses to wallow or whine
One of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is they gain control over the things they have control over, rather than whinnying over the things that are not really in their control. They choose to focus on the things that are in their control instead of sweating over the things that are not in their control.
Certain things about you and your life are beyond your control. They are not within your purview.
Having a sense of humor gives you a sense of control.
Being helpless and vulnerable to so many things that are far beyond your control, you feel a psychological lack of control.
And a human has to practice control at things to satisfy his or her need of being in control. A person with anxiety is found to be overeating. Why? Because when you are anxious, you feel fear. It becomes a regular emotion that you don’t know how to control. You don’t get to practice control. So often you will find yourself practicing control at counterintuitive things. Overeating is just that.
All this sermon is just a fancy explanation of the saying “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”
Not taking things personally
By laughing at your most embarrassing, dumb story, you give yourself a subconscious message “It’s not about you. It’s just life.” You laugh at the drama of it all, disassociate yourself from the cause. This is the 101 coping mechanism for not taking things personally.
TEDx speaker Frederik Imbo put this term really well.
He argues that for a person to be able to not take things personally, they must remember these 3 things.
Number 1: Know that it is not about you (Not that you deserve this). It is the circumstances or environment that is causing the other person to mistreat you.
Number 2: You don’t get offended by the words that you think are untrue. In fact, you only get offended by the words that you know, deep inside, are true.
For instance, if you are skinny as hell, and someone calls you fat, do you take it personally?
No. Because –
a) You know that the person simply doesn’t know what s/he is talking about
b) You know that there is no way it (the fact that you are fat) is true.
Number 3: If it really is about you (the fact that you are at fault and accountable for what happened), accept it, and give yourself empathy.
Remind yourself why (and how) you turned out to be the way you are and know that it’s not your fault.
By being able to humor about the unpleasant events,
You give yourself empathy (rather than waiting for someone else to do it for you)
You cut yourself some slack
You acknowledge your pain and misery
You give words to your sufferings (in a way, through humor)
This is the right way to move on, without taking things personally.
Stepping on the toes of your hater
Also, when you can humor on your shortcomings or painful past, you kind of step on the toes of your haters. By criticizing yourself, you practically do their job for them and subtly steal their thunder. You get comfortable being uncomfortable. And when you would have gotten yourself that particular skill of being comfortable with the criticism, you would piss off a lot of people. Trust me on this one.
“Humor was another of the soul’s weapons in the fight for self-preservation. It is well known that humor, more than anything else in the human make-up, can afford an aloofness and an ability to rise above any situation, even if only for a few seconds.
I practically trained a friend of mine to develop a sense of humor. I suggested to him that we would promise each other to invent at least one amusing story daily, about some incident that could happen one day after our liberation. …
The attempt to develop a sense of humor and to see things in a humorous light is some kind of a trick learned while mastering the art of living. Yet it is possible to practice the art of living even in a concentration camp, although suffering is omnipresent. To draw an analogy a man’s suffering is similar to the behavior of gas. If a certain quantity of gas is pumped into an empty chamber, it will fill the chamber completely and evenly, no matter how big the chamber. Thus suffering completely fills the human soul and conscious mind, no matter whether the suffering is great or little. Therefore the “size’’ of human suffering is absolutely relative.”

Although Baulism originated from the second half of the 18th century, it was popularized by the Baul emperor mystic Guru Lalon Fakir. Baul emperor Lalon Fakir was able to create a distinct religion of Baul concept.
Lalon was a Hindu. She got married at a young age. After marriage, he started his journey in Srikshetra. On his way back, when he contracted smallpox, his companions left him in the middle of the road and spread the news of his death. A childless palanquin bearer named Siraj Shah picked up Lalon from the path and healed him.
When Lalon returned home, he was not allowed to go home as he had eaten Muslim rice. His wife also denies the expatriate husband. Seeing no change, Lalon returned to his patron Siraj Shah and accepted him as his guru.
After completing his pilgrimage in 1823, Lalon married a Muslim woman in Seoria village of Kumarkhali in Kushtia and settled there permanently. After Lalon’s death in 1890, he was buried here. Which is now widely known as Lalon Shah Mazar.
When I got on the bus at Gabtoli terminal with Lalon Shah’s shrine in front of my destination, it was 3 minutes to 5 o’clock. After leaving the bus, a consolation came, let’s go. I get on the bus and think to myself, get off at Kushtia, first the hotel, then rest, eat and drink, then sleep. The next morning goes straight to Sanji’s shrine. Then … the shrine of Lalon Shah.
Before going to the premises of his shrine, Lalon’s song was played in his mind. Then one by one I couldn’t help but sing. After a while, when I reached Savar, there was a lot of traffic noise and that busy picture again. Lalon’s song was lost for a while.
The plaque of the National Memorial was seen a little further after the traffic jam was cleared. The bus was speeding due to the fact that the road across Manikganj was a bit empty.
At this time, the wind was blowing through the window of the bus and the two eyes were closed as soon as it hit the body. I am at Paturia Ghat as soon as I open my eyes. The conductor said it would take 10 minutes, another passenger said 15 more minutes.
Then the ferry started moving through the middle of the Padma. I got off the bus and went to the audience cabin on the third floor of the ferry. Sitting on the third floor, the devastating Padma looks quite good.
It is a wonderful moment when the setting sun sets. I came to Kushtia and stayed in a hotel. The use of the hotel manager was very good. He also entertained the reporter by raising a cup of tea. After spending the night, after breakfast, go straight to Sanji’s shrine by rickshaw.
I went down in front of the shrine gate and noticed a small market on the right side. Ektara, Dotara, a combination of folk instruments in almost all the shops. I was wondering if I should buy something first. In the end, I decided to go to Guru’s shrine first and then go shopping.
As soon as he entered the shrine premises through the gate, a sense of self-respect was working in him. All around is clean and tidy. In front of the shrine where the mystic devotee Guru Lalon Saiji is lying in eternal sleep. Some more tombs. Several Lalonbhaktas tasted it. They go with the bounties they get from the visitors.
Wherever I went I found out this entertainment is on the ground floor of the auditorium. Upstairs is the main room of the auditorium. Occasionally there are various events here. The auditorium is quite improved. There are a library and museum next door. The museum has a monograph used by Lalon Fakir along with specimens of several folk collections. Affordable handicraft items also increased the interest in shopping.
Hundred year old Jhaudia Shahi Mosque located at Jhaudia village in Kushtia sadar upazila, about 6.5 km west of the Kushtia-Jhenaidah highway. There are many mysteries surrounding the mosque. However, no one knows the exact history of when and who built it.
The mosque is built on a low plinth with an open courtyard. The main mosque is an oblong building and the entire compound is surrounded by a wall. There are two additional octagonal domed pavilions on the corners of the front boundary wall.
These corner towers are similar to those of Sat Gambuj Mosque in Dhaka and Ghoraghat Fort mosque in Dinajpur. Each pavilion has four axial arched openings. Their presence suggests that they were used as madrassah or for reciting the Quran. In between the pavilions, in the middle of the eastern boundary wall, there is a gateway to enter the mosque premises.
It is known that there is no history or book about the mosque. However, according to many locals, the mosque was miraculously uprooted many years ago. Since then, Muslim mosques have been maintained and worshiped. Since then, word of the construction of the mosque spread in the area and many people came to see it.
Many claim that Shah Sufi Adari Mia came from Iraq about 1100 years ago to spread Islam in Jhenaidah, Kushtia and Bagerhat. He settled in the village of Jhaudia between Jhenaidah and Kushtia. It is said that he built the mosque and preached the religion in the whole area. After the death of Adari Mia, he was buried in the area adjacent to the mosque. However, the locals said that he had no descendants in that place. A shrine committee was set up to maintain his grave.
There is also more disagreement about the construction of the mosque. The entrance to the mosque is inscribed with a large man-made identity and was established during the reign of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.
But there is no mention of who built it at that time. Even local conscious people could not say anything about its origin. The mosque is made of brick, stone, sand and porcelain. It has 5 lovely domes on the top and two minarets at the entrance. It has wonderful artistic craftsmanship. Easily captivating.
Rabindranath’s house in Shilaidaha Kuthibari
— Topu Raihan
I live very close to home but I have never been able to visit the house with two eyes, this is my regret for a long time. It would be a great misfortune for an intense literary lover like me not to visit the place where the world poet himself has been in the dust for more than three decades.
Why did Rabindranath himself say, many crores away for many days … a dew drop on a grain of rice! My condition was the same. I have set foot in many places, I have not only gone to Rabindra Bhavan. Unfortunately, this time it came to an end. The distance from Jhenaidah to Kushtia is fifty kilometers. And from Kushtia to Kuthibari it will be about twelve kilometers.
Literary love-Rabindra fascination has really come true this time by spending the accumulated enthusiasm accumulated for a long time. The soil of Bengal, the water of Bengal was so dear to the world poet that it was a proper realization in an afternoon at the house. Fakhrul Azam Russell and Hasan Hafizur Rahman, two traveling friends, set out for Kuthibari with dollars.
As soon as he reached Kushtia, he felt the pull of Shilaidaha. That pull dragged me to the house along the winding road that melted the endless green gap. The main road from Kushtia Chowdhury ends at Alauddin Nagar. From then on, we traveled along the narrow paved road through the middle of Alauddin Nagar to the house of the poet through the snake-like winding road.
The fascination that was the purpose of this journey was further enhanced by the fact that only green paddy fields, trees, and the busyness of arranging people’s families could be seen around the journey. Really, if the journey to the east of the destination is not pleasant and eye-catching, then the pull towards the main place of interest is a little dirty! The tension in the scenic view of the destination increased my tension even more.
I rented a van for ten rupees each and reached Kuthibari. The height of the house is two and a half stories. The house is the main attraction of the place. If we want to say the real beauty of the house built in a wonderful style of construction, we have to write it in the language of poetry like the world poet. Why, Rabindranath Tagore made a wonderful statement about the pyramids of Egypt, here the language of stone has surpassed the language of man… I think this remarkable quote of the poet himself can be easily passed on to his family. But in place of the stone of the pyramid, bricks have to be placed here.
The infinity fascination was gained by looking around the house. I was repeatedly thrilled to think, is this the house! The house that we are walking through this desert is exactly where the world poet used to walk a hundred years ago? He had paper and ink in his hand, pen. In the background, he used to talk to the river Padma flowing in Sagaurbe-Sollas and used to enchant the sky and air of Bengal by writing songs and poems.
I also had the good fortune to visualize Rabindranath Tagore several times. It was normal, looking at the intact windows of the house, through the open window, I could see the poet’s delight in nature view of Bengal. The poet probably loved plants very much. And why not love? If the mind is not green like nature, then one cannot become a world poet.
That is why the shade of some Rabindranath trees was found in the west-east-north corner around the house. The large old jackfruit tree at the back of the house still has many of its twigs, which is a testament to Rabindranath’s return to the house.
If human vowels were found, perhaps many unknown things could be known about the poet from them. Four palm trees standing side by side on the east side. The three are together, a palm tree a little farther apart. My favorite rhyme was probably written by the poet Tagore in his time by looking at one of these trees.
The Tagore family established this house on 30 bighas of land. The architectural style of this three-story house is very much like a pagoda. There is a boundary wall around the two bighas of land, which is eye-catching and beautiful, facing south. His grandfather Prince Dwarkanath Tagore became the owner of the zamindari at Patisar and Shahjadpur in the greater Rajshahi district of Bangladesh in 1830.
The center of this zamindari was Shilaidaha. The poet’s brothers Dwijendranath, Jyotirindranath, Satyendranath, and others have come to Shilaidaha to see a natural beauty and captivating form of Kushtia for the purpose of supervising the zamindari work. The poet first came to Shilaidaha in 18, and later in 1892 took charge of the zamindari. Rabindranath lived in a house in Shilaidaha for a long time.
But the poet liked the natural beauty of Shilaidaha so much that he was fascinated and expressed his desire to live permanently. The poet had a strong attraction towards the river Padma. In this Shilaidaha, almost all the Tagore dynasty lived in rural buildings and enjoyed the beauty of the Padma, Gorai Bidhaut rural nature. From 1892 to 1922, Rabindranath Tagore was in and out of Shilaidaha.
Shilaidaha Rabindranath Tagore’s mansion has been preserved as a glorious memory since 1958 under the management of the Archaeological Department. After the independence of Bangladesh in 1971, realizing the importance of Kuthibari, it was established as a museum by collecting various works of art of the poet. Rabindra Lilaniketan is full of different species of trees.
The same impression is made on the cornice of the roof of the cottage, which is protected by a wall resembling the waves of the Padma on the 2 bighas of land of the main building in Chilakotha architecture. There are 6 rooms on the first and second floors and 16 rooms on the third floor. The poet’s writing room was on the third floor. The poet has written many poems and stories sitting in this room.
Once your mindset changes, everything outside will change along with it. In October 2012, on her home from school, a masked gunman boarded at the school bus and asked, “Who is Malala?” The girl replied, and immediately she was shot at the left side.
She woke up 10 days later in a hospital in Birmingham, England. The doctors and nurses told her about the attack —and that people around the world were praying for my recovery. My dear audience, later on, she established the Malala Fund, a charity dedicated to giving every girl an opportunity to achieve a future she chooses.
In recognition, she received Noble prize for peace and became the youngest-ever Nobel laureate. Why Malala did that day recognized her in front of the Taliban? Why did she engage herself in movements and many more, which caused her to go to the hospital? She would have been silent, right. But her mindset did all these to her. Malala Yousafzai proved that the only change of mentality and mindset is to make a difference. The established set of attitudes held by someone is known as a mindset.
The phrase “women’s empowerment” is used in the Gender Equality & Women’s Empowerment space (and beyond), it is generally in the context of issues —economic empowerment, political participation, and girls’ education. Kofi Anan said, there is no tool for development more effective than the empowerment of women in terms of girl’s education. Let us
look back to our past when women had no chance to even go outside. Then and that time, Begum Rokeya believed that women were held back by the ignorance of their own rights and responsibilities. In1909, she set up the Sakhawat Memorial Girl’s School immediately after her husband died, the first school for Muslim women in the region, starting with five students. She went from door to door, trying to persuade Muslim families to allow their daughters to attend school.
My dear opponents, when BegumRokeya herself, at first changed the conservative mentality of girls, so that they can come out from their ignorance. How can we deny the mindset of women as the biggest challenge? In terms of women empowerment, we mainly focus on the participation of women in political activities. Only 24.3 percent of all national parliamentarians were women as of February 2019, a slow increase from 11.3 percent in 1995. As of June 2019, 11 women are serving as Head of State and 12 are serving as Head of Government. Source: UNWOMEN.
India, once ruled by Indira Gandhi, now has just 64 women among its 542 MPs. The reason is quite clear, the mindset of women. Recently, the effectiveness is very much in doubt in Brazil. The country’s quota law, which initially mandated that only 20 percent of candidates be female, was instituted in 1995 and inspired by calls for quotas at the UN’s Fourth World Conference on Women that same year. According to the Brazilian feminist group CFEMEA, which monitors women’s issues in Congress, women constituted just over 5 percent of the chamber in 1989. Between 1945 and 1982, that figure was
below 2 percent. My dear opponent, here Brazilian women got the full opportunity in terms of political participation. However, they denied, because of their mindset, lack of education, ignorance, and insecurity. The United States, which ranks 85th on the IPU’s gender-equity list is also not taking quota reformation as a step. Because, according to them, the main challenge is to change the mindset first, rather than changing the quota.
According to women’s rights activists, women members of our political parties generally do not have any decision-making power and their male counterparts, which definitely discourage the educated and intellectually active women to come to politics, always look them down upon.If we look at the economic empowerment of women, since 2013, because of the UN Women supported a review of Kenyan public procurement, a minimum of 30% of annual government spending is reserved for women, youth, and people with disabilities.
In addition, UN Women, before starting their work for the framework, focused upon education, self-awareness, and lack of ignorance. Because, they at first faced the challenge of the mindset of women, to conquer this inequality problem and presented a smooth resolution. As Steve Maraboli said, once your mindset changes, everything outside will change along with it. However, today in our country, many women are giving their ideas shape. Persons like, Bibi Russel, Rubaba Dowla, Taslima Miji, and many more are proving themselves every day. They believed in their goal, and they had firmed mindset about their
desire, passion. But, in Pakistan, where many women refuse to complain at the police just for their ignorance, religious thoughts, in order to maintain social norms. What will we do with facing all those challenges, where still now, many women think themselves for nothing? Were many women, for the cause of religious circumstances, do not go outside? As Justine Creening says, No country can truly develop if half of its population are ignorant.
Therefore, women’s empowerment is necessary for the sake of nation’s overall development. For that, we need to change our mindset. As Angela Merkel quoted, we do not want the clock to be back on Sunday, we want the clocks to be forward. Despite having a very luxurious life, Sanna Marin took the responsibility of the whole Finland government only for her mindset to make a difference, to make a change. So, think logically instead of acting as a true feminist. Because the mindset of women is the main challenge in pursuing women empowerment.
Karimuddin said it gravely. It silenced his wife. No one spoke for a while. Not even the mosquitoes. Karim’s daughter Maya was sleeping between them. She was silent too. There was nothing to be heard other than the sound of dogs barking. After some times, his wife Zubaida said,
“She is thirteen, now. And she has a belly.”
Karim said nothing. He just stared at his wife with a blank stare. His wife said,
“You’re an honorable man and you don’t want your daughter to do that work. Fine, but remember, your honor doesn’t bring us food. My dishonor does.”
“My disgrace open another path for her to live.” Zubaida replied.
“She is my daughter.” Karim Uddin said it again with frost in his eyes. And then they both shut down.
It was twelve o’clock at night. Karim’s wife left the hut. She went where she goes every night. And Karim stared at his daughter’s face until he fell asleep.
It is a densely populated slum. There are dust and dung all around. Young boys and girls play marble all day long. Each hut is attached to one another. Karim got a hut in the middle of the slum. He wouldn’t have lived here. But there was an accident that shattered everything.
“Hey boy, do you hear me?” Anis was looking for karimuddin’s cottage.
“Do you live here, boy?”
The boy stared at Anis’s gorgeous dress. He had never seen anyone dressed like that before. Karim asked,
“Do you know where master Karimuddin lives?”
The boy pointed to a hut. Every one of this slum knows master Karimuddin by one name though none of them studied under him. None of them studied under anyone.
Anis is sitting in front of his master. He stared at the room. A small hut made of straw. There is a little space outside with tin-shed for the cook. Karim was lying on his dirty bed with a broken leg.
“It was a truck.” Karim said.
Anis went to say something but said nothing at the end.
“I… I will buy you a wheelchair.” Anis said in a hushed voice.
“Is there any need of it?”
Anis replied nothing. He just kept his head down. Suddenly Maya came with an apple in her hand.
“Father, look, what I brought for you. It will heal…” seeing an unknown guy in front of his father she stopped. Anis felt a bit hesitant. So he stood up and said, “I will come tomorrow.” Then he left without giving anyone a chance to say anything.
“Where did you get it?” Karim asked his daughter.
“In the market.”
“Where did you get the money?”
“I have some savings, father.”
“And how did you know the path of the market?”
With a fancy smile in her cheek, she replied, “Mother has shown me the way.”
Karim gives his daughter a kiss on the forehead instead of eating the apple.
After a few days, Anis has bought Karimuddin a wheelchair. Karimuddin can walk around in a wheelchair now whenever he wants. Anis has promised his master that he will get him out of here after getting a good job and get a good house for them. Karim’s wife doesn’t believe this kind of words, but Karim does. He often thinks of marrying his daughter off to Anis. Ah! What a good boy Anis is. He is a piece of gold.
One night, Karim says to his wife,
“Do you know what I’m thinking?”
His wife Zubaida replied nothing. She just pays attention to clean the bed. Karim continues to say,
“I am just thinking of marrying my daughter to anis.” As he finished speaking, he looked at his wife’s face. He tries to understand his wife’s mood. Zubaida remains silent. As if she hadn’t heard anything.
Karim started saying again, “Anis is a good lad. in a school, he used to…”
“If you have to urinate in night, urinate in this bottle.” Zubaida said. And began to leave. But karim gripped her arm and said,
“Why don’t you find a good job? You can find work as a baby sitter or a maid. Why do you do kind of work that I can’t reveal to outsiders? Why don’t you find a good work?”
“Do you think I didn’t try?” Zubaida said and escaped from her crippled husband’s grip.
“Tell me, what will I say when they ask me about our income source?”
“Tell them the truth.” Saying it Zubaida left the cottage.
A lake has been created beside the slum. Karim Uddin often goes there to visit. It is a beautiful lake. staying by the lake, he remembered his wife. Standing by a lake like this, he told his wife he loved her. That was a long time ago. Can Zubaida remember those days now?
She was beautiful just like this lake. She is still beautiful now.
She has a mole on her cheek. Dimple shows when she smiles. Karim tries to remember the last time Zubaida smiled.
Meanwhile, Zubaida has to get out a little early today. Maya is alone at home. She went to the lake to bring Karim. They have to cross a highway road to get there. Zubaida went there and saw Karim is sitting alone beside the lake. There was no one around. Karim was happy to see his wife come. Zubaida quietly pushed the wheelchair and began to bring her husband home.
A freight truck appeared when they were in the middle of the highway. It was out of control and it came out of nowhere. Zubaida screamed and pushed the wheelchair off the road. She was clever enough to save her husband but not strong enough to save herself. She died saving her husband. It was a horrible yet beautiful death.
Everything is going well in Karim’s family now. They rented a good house. However, it wasn’t Anis who brought prosperity to Karim’s family. It’s Maya. Anis has proposed to marry her. But Maya rejects it.
Karim doesn’t understand his daughter nowadays. He tries to understand her all the time. He looks at his daughter and the only thing he can remember is that Maya once said with a fancy smile on her face, ‘Mother has shown me the way’.

Dilara Zaman. Ekushey Padak winner Actress. She is one of the few talented actress in Bangladesh. The story of the life of this actress, who has starred in numerous TV dramas, is etched in the mind of the reader. She has seen the language movement, liberation war and other movements very closely. Her thoughts are ideal in consciousness.
Childhood period:
She was born on 19 June 1942 (Certificate 1943) in Burdwan, West Bengal, her father’s place of work. Dilara Zaman’s mother was only 16 years old then. The teenage mother did not know how to raise a child. Dilara Zaman’s mother contracted malaria shortly after her birth. Could not feed properly. Meanwhile, the Second World War. Those who used to keep cows have also fled. It was not possible to get cow’s milk. Somehow Dilara Zaman was saved by eating barley and rice starch.
The engineer’s father was transferred from Burdwan to Asansol, then to Jessore during the partition. Dilara started her education at Momen Garden School, now it is Jessore Government Girls School. She used to walk to and from school. She would pay two annas for a tiffin. She used to buy murki and eat it. She used to go back to play in the field next to the school.
Dilara Zaman’s house was on the shostitala. When she heard the train’s whistle, she ran two minutes from home and stood by the railway line. When the train left, the frock was flying in the air. The porches of their houses were all red tiled. There were two coconut trees in front like a gate. After 65-7 years, she went to Jessore and found the shostitala, but she could not find the house anymore! All the huge buildings have become. When she was completely disappointed, a gentleman stopped the rickshaw while passing by and said, ‘Aren’t you Dilara Zaman?’ ‘Yes’. ‘Your nickname is Lily?’ ‘How do you know?’ ‘This house, this house …!’ The man said exactly where you were standing! He said, ‘This house was bought by my uncle. He always sees you on television and talks about your childhood, your father. ‘Dilara Zaman then sat down on the ground, crying. He took her inside the house. How many memories I remembered!
How was Dilara Zaman as a child?
When the storm came, she would run to the backyard to pick mangoes. The house next door was later the Chief Scientific Officer of the Atomic Energy Commission, scientist. M. Shamser Ali. When Dilara was four or five years old and he was seven or eight years old, one day she climbed a tree and planted guava. He went out and said, ‘Excluding studies and planting guavas? Naughty girl, wait, I will tie you to the wheels of the cart. ‘Little Dilara was very scared then. Thought he would really do it! His younger brother Tota was Dilara’s playmate.
Many years later, probably in the 1970s, he was once the chief guest at a Shishu academy in Dhaka, Dilara Zaman was the special guest. Dilara Zaman doesn’t notice him anymore. When he reminisced about it in his speech, Dilara Zaman shouted, “Brother Shanti!”
Once beaten in a procession!
Dilara Zaman Bara Khalu was the Deputy Magistrate. He had a house next to the ‘Tasbir Mahal’ cinema hall. The dialogues of the movie could be heard from home. Whenever she went to visit Khalu’s house, she would run to the cinema. Sitting in the VIP box for 10-15 minutes, she would run home again. When it comes to language movement. Parents have heard that students have been killed in Dhaka. She did not understand the meaning of the words.
One day after 21st February, a procession was passing in front of their house, ‘I want Bangla as the state language’. Little Dilara also went a long way with slogans behind the procession. When she returned, she found her mother standing at the gate. She was upset not to find her. Got a light beating with a hand fan!
Come to Dhaka and others
In 1953, her father moved to Dhaka. Dilara Zaman was admitted in class six in Banglabazar school. From there she passed matriculation in 1956. Then, while studying at Eden College, Sukant Bhattacharya’s poems filled her mind. Those who were more revolutionary, reading their poems and biographies, seemed to be a little like these struggling people! From then on writing started.
Her first poem was published in 1956, Ittefaq’s ‘Kachi Kanchar Asare’. This is the first time her name has been printed – Dilara Ahmed (Lily) after her father Rafiq Uddin Ahmed. But she used to write in secret. Parents were talking, before studying! At that time the only magazine for girls was ‘Begum’. She started writing stories there too.
Today’s Dhaka cannot be compared with the Dhaka of 1953. Then, if you went somewhere by rickshaw, you would be surrounded by a sari with a curtain around the rickshaw. There were not many cars on the road. Only the jeep of her father’s office used to come in front of the house. At that time the elite area of Dhaka was Rankin Street. In 1962, when the New Market was being built, she would walk from home to see the big gate.
Introduction to drama
The first play on stage was in 1958, at Curzon Hall. University drama. Starring Mumtaz Lily Khan and Jahrat Ara, the heroine of ‘Mukh O Mukhosh’. Then she saw in amazement, the living people in a stage were talking, crying, laughing like them. This magical act of acting became a seed in her mind. That seed has germinated slowly in later times. That same year, she starred in a short play at the school’s matriculation farewell ceremony. Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s story ‘Fruit of the Case/ Mamlar Fal’ was their text.
They acted in theatrical form. What acting did not know; She came like a storm and said dialogue, then went out like a storm. Then there was no makeup like now; The chalk powder brought from Shankharibazar was mixed with vermilion, they were smeared on the face, and the eyes were decorated with kajal. Dilara Zaman did not clean her face after the performance that day. On the bus from Banglabazar School to Lalbagh, she kept her face out of the window all the way, as if everyone could see that this girl had acted! She felt like a very proud woman, as if she had won something huge!
How were your college days?
Professor Rokeya Rahman Kabir was a very cultured and modern minded person. She used to guide their cultural programs. Dilara Zaman also acted in college plays. That is when she got acquainted with the present Member of Parliament Matia Chowdhury. She was the VP of Chhatrasangs, Dilara Zaman Literary Editor. In the student movement of 1962, they used to go out of the college by climbing over the walls. Curzon Hall of Dhaka University, Amtala Rashed Khan used to gather in those places and listen to the speeches of Menon and other student leaders with fascination. The blood was boiling. From then on, a tendency towards left politics was born.
In 1984-85, she was involved with the student union during her studies at Dhaka University. However, she was not such a great student leader. Lived in the back row. Apart from that, she became a regular writer. The story with pictures was published in the Eid issue of ‘Begum’. The office of ‘Azad’ newspaper was near their house. Poet Habibur Rahman used to work there. He and the poet Ahsan Habib loved her very much as a younger follower. She got acquainted with her life partner Fakhruzzaman Chowdhury through writing.
About 1984. At that time there was an afternoon literary session at the Bangla Academy. One day Dilara Zaman’s mother was ill and she immediately went to the hospital after reading a poem. Fakhruzzaman Chowdhury was then a Research Fellow of Bangla Academy. Dilara Zaman did not know him; Didn’t even hear the name. In that session of the Bangla Academy that day, he criticized one of her stories the writer is indifferent to writing ’and so on. Later, when others told Dilara Zaman about it, she thought, who is this man, I have to see!
Incidentally, his niece was studying with Dilara. The next day the girl also said, ‘Lily Apa, yesterday my mama criticized your writing. You probably haven’t heard. ’Dilara said,‘ Who is your mama? ’Said the name. She said, ‘Tell your uncle, I want to meet him. I will give him a strong answer. ‘Dilara Zaman was very angry.
As soon as the class was over, she went straight to Bangla Academy. As soon as she got off the rickshaw, she saw a gentleman coming from inside and saying, ‘Are you Dilara Ahmed?’ Dilara Zaman said, ‘Are you Fakhruzzaman Chowdhury?’ She went and sat down with him in the dark library below. He used to sit there and do research. She saw a man wearing glasses, who looked very wise. Dilara forgot all about Zaman’s preparations for the quarrel. She didn’t talk to him much that day. At one point he said, ‘Will you go home now?’ Dilara Zaman said, ‘No, I will go to the hospital. Patients who have no relatives, or who live alone — talk to them a little. Give a little food. When she told him about this, he was very surprised.
Dilara Zaman said, ‘No wonder. All people are lonely. A man can be lonely in a crowd of hundreds, even in the midst of noise. ‘He was fascinated to hear the words. Then he said, ‘Tonight at 10 o’clock I will read a story in the radio literature room. I could not find the plot of my story. Talk to you and keep up the good content. ” The man said I got a theme after listening to you. ‘
Then there was the small battery-powered radio. Dilara Zaman was listening to the radio with her head, he was reading the story. The name of the story is ‘Prahra’. A girl goes to the hospital and accompanies patients without relatives, her ‘sad conch-like eyes’! Dilara Zaman had never heard such an adjective in her life. He is describing it in stories. Quite thrilled. Dilara Zaman has just entered her youth. She studied Bangla in the university. He is also a former student of Bangla department. Dilara Zaman could not hear the end of the story; Fell asleep!
The next day she went to him again. Spoke. Gradually the relationship developed. Then she got married on February 24 of the same year. That was the journey of uncertainty for Dilara with him. Because he still doesn’t have a job. Get a scholarship of only two and a half hundred taka. She got married against everyone’s wishes. Later everyone agreed. 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of their marriage. He was very ill then. They came from America. He has to be kept with oxygen. After coming from America, her husband had to be taken to ICU six times in two years. You have to set it up at home just like in a hospital.
Dilara used to work a little then. She told everyone to leave her in the evening. There was a drama shooting near the house that day. She was called more than once from home. She came and saw many cars in front of the house. Her heart was pounding, maybe something had happened to him. I don’t know how he got up. The people in the house went and saw him. Earlier, when dhe left for America, she left all the things of her 45 years of life to the people. Didn’t think that would come back again. At the end of two years, the two of them came back because they were upset for the country. There too he was in the ICU twice.
However, when she returned home that day, she saw that his two daughters had arranged a wedding anniversary. That was the last wedding anniversary of Dilara Zaman’s life. Her husband died on June 12 of that year.
University life:
Dr. University. Munir Chowdhury, Dr. Nilima Ibrahim, Dr. Anisuzzaman, Dr. Moniruzzaman, head of the Bengali department. Abdul Hai got them. Everyone loved her very much. At the end of the class she would go to Sadarghat via Nawabpur and Islampur in a procession; She used to return in procession again. Cultivation, the seed that was sown to nurture culture in mind; And the woman who loved drama, acting, literature, was born in her — it was at this time.
So university days are the best time of her life. Back then, boys and girls did not play together. Boys dress up as girls, while girls dress up as boys. In 1973, for the first time in the university, boys and girls acted together. ‘Mayabi Prahor’ written by poet Alauddin Al Azad. Abdullah Al Mamun of the history department, the science student. Enamul Haque — they also acted. Dilara Zaman said, ‘I don’t know if dad will give permission or not.’ Hearing this, Munir Sir wrote a letter to her father. At that time Dilara Zaman’s mother’s distant brother Shahid Mofazzal Haider Chowdhury was also a teacher of Bangla department. But did not dare to tell him. Since Munir Sir is involved in the drama, Dilara Zaman’s father did not agree with his letter.
Acting life:
The first television came in December 1974. The experimental broadcast lasted for a few hours from evening. DIT had a television station. Studio in a small room. The dialogue had to be memorized like reading an exam. The rehearsal lasted for five-six days. On the day of the evening drama, she had to go to the DIT by 2 pm. Live broadcast. Fear of being out-of-frame as soon as one hand moves. In this way, it was necessary to act like a battlefield. Dilara Zaman made her television debut in early 1985. Munir Chowdhury’s wife Lily Chowdhury was her mother in the play ‘Tridhara’ produced by Mohammad Zakaria.
There is no account of how many TV dramas she had acted in! In their time, at least until the 1990s, they didn’t even think about taking acting as a profession. Especially girls have to do something other than acting to make a living. Making a living from acting as a profession has been a gradual development since independence. Just as Mancha Nat has undergone a revolution in the post-independence period, so now there are so many TV channels that she calls it becoming an industry.
With so many channels, so many people are making a living and taking acting as a profession. Not just acting, thousands of people are able to make a living from being involved in various fields of drama production. Dilara Zaman used to teach, and used to take time out to act. However, acting has been her profession for the last 18 years.
Teaching stories …
Sher-e-Bangla School and College was then known as Narishiksha Mandir. After marriage, the family could not run on the husband’s scholarship of two and a half hundred taka. The house had to be rented for two hundred taka. At that time she used to do one drama every four or five months on radio and television. So she started teaching in Nari Shiksha Mandir. From there, she went to Mymensingh in 1966 and passed B.Ed, M.Ed besides teaching in kindergarten.
Went to Mymensingh for her husband’s job. Unable to continue, he no longer submitted his PhD dissertation; He took a job in the government’s information department (later he was the director of the administration department of Bangladesh Television). The war of liberation started while Dilara was in Mymensingh. They fled to the village. She was kept hidden behind the Golaghor so that no one would understand that a young woman had come here.
After independence she returned to Mymensingh. Then the husband was transferred to Chittagong. She became the first mother on July 20, 1983. Television could not be seen in Chittagong then. She used to do dramas on the radio. That same year, she joined the Arindam Natyagosthi. Every Sunday she rented a Muslim Hall (now Chittagong Public Library) and performed plays. She also rented the halls of St. Mary’s School on holidays. What is now art is a one-story building; Like a library.
They used to rehearse in the field or on the verandah. At that time, every year a drama festival was organized with the participation of theater groups representing the whole country. They went on for three or four years. Dilara Zaman’s performance in Brecht’s play ‘Mother’ in the context of the Vietnam War was highly praised.
She moved to Dhaka in 1970. She was called by many theater groups in Dhaka, but after that she could not do any more plays. Because then the girls are younger, go to school; They had to give time. Of course, now she wants to do a play again. But the body does not give in.
When she came to Dhaka, She used to teach at Meherun Nesa School in Bhooter goly, near their house. From there taught in BAF Shaheen school for many years. then taught at Vikarunnisa Noon School, and retired in 2000. There have been many conflicts with acting while teaching. She never skipped school. However, She have heard harsh words from some people in the school. If she had been as generous as she is now, she might have done more.
When she was teaching in Shaheen school, a foreign serial called ‘Dallas’ was shown on television. Its heroine’s name was Sue Ellen. The students used to call her ‘Sue Ellen Madam’. She has so many students, maybe she remembers looking at them in primary school; But now they have grown up, She can’t recognize them. Once on her way to America, she lost an important token at Doha airport. Suddenly a boy came and said, ‘Madam, I am your student.’ She seemed to found straw in the sea. The boy works for that airline. He made alternative arrangements.
Meanwhile, last year, students held a reunion at Chittagong Public School with former teachers. Gave a reception. Even on the streets, when someone says, ‘I was your student’ — she thinks this is a great achievement as a teacher.
If you make a mistake, you can do it again this is the advantage of shooting. It is as good as it is bad. Rehearseling many times to master the dialogue, assimilating a character — this attention has decreased a lot. It is also seen that an actor-actress is working on two or three plays on the same day. Then there would be dramas one or two days a week; After all, everyone in the neighborhood was sitting around a television set. Speaking of that play, the characters would stir the audience.
Now that television dramas have become mere entertainment, we seem to have lost the ability to think about society, life’s problems and words as we did then. The artist has a social responsibility. When Dilara Zaman works, she thinks that this dialogue, this character will have an effect on someone’s mind. As a result, you have to think and understand a lot of things. She could not play many roles before because she used to teach. Wondering if there is a negative impact on students?
Acting in movies:
She has acted in several films including ‘Aguner Parashamani’ (1994), ‘Monpura’ (2009), ‘Halda’ (2016). Chandragrahan (2006) won the National Film Award.
Literary composition:
Story books Astraag (1982), Arshi Ami (198), Mrigaya Sharabiddha (198) and Golpasamagra (2010); The novel ‘Many Blue in the Sky’ (1974) and the memoir ‘Dilapidated Leaf Falling’ (2011).

Tiktok Generation and Crime Psychology.Recently, there has been a lot of talk about teen gangs and the use of Tictok and Like apps. Earlier this year, a number of our national newspapers published investigative reports in the form of a series on the crimes of juvenile gangs and their reckless activities.
Last year and this year, our media reported that hundreds of juvenile gangs were involved in criminal activities in Dhaka and Chittagong. Members of the juvenile gang have been charged with using and carrying illegal weapons, using and selling drugs, terrorism and extortion. Most of the juvenile gangs are reported to be directly involved in other crimes at the local level, including drug use.
Reviewing the crime statistics of Bangladesh over the past few years, it can be seen that our children and adolescents under the age of 18 are involved in various types of crime. Almost every day, teenagers are reported to be involved in crimes such as murder, rape, extortion, robbery, drug use and drug trafficking. Even some events are very thrilling and scary.
For some time now, there has been widespread criticism of the use of TikTok and Like apps in Bangladesh.
Usually teenagers and young adults use these apps to express their feelings and various activities online through videos. Recently, those apps are becoming very popular in India as well as Bangladesh. Many people are trying to earn star fame and money by using those apps. Recently arrested tiktok star Apu (known as Apu Bhai) is being widely criticized for his activities and videos.
As can be seen from his video, Apu has gained a reputation as a ‘tickling star’ through the use of obscene language, obscene dialogue, distorted body language and the use of irrelevant words. His millions of followers can be seen on TickTok and Like. A few days ago, the authorities fired Apu from Tiktok and Laiki. Apu and his teenage gang friends blocked the road and when they asked him to leave the road while making a ticktok video, they beat him severely and seriously injured the two.
The last few days I have been watching social media and YouTube and a number of tickling and liking videos, which are inconvenient and tasteless. These videos are created and uploaded just to gain cheap popularity by using perverted gestures and obscene words and sex. About 80 percent of those who make TickTok and Like videos are teenagers. They are seen blocking the road and recording their videos everywhere through their mobiles.
The reviews of their videos show that millions of people have already watched such distorted and obscene videos. Making videos and its popularity indicates that our society is deteriorating and negative work is rapidly gaining popularity. Parents and educational institutions are failing miserably in educating their children.
The Government of Bangladesh enacted and implemented the Children’s Act in 2013. According to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child 1979 and the Children’s Act 2013, all children up to the age of 18 are children. The trial and investigation of their crimes will be in accordance with the Children Act-2013. There are currently juvenile courts in every district to try juvenile offenders.
The Tribunal for the Suppression of Violence against Women and Children is an additional responsibility of the Juvenile Court. About 50,000 cases are pending in the juvenile courts in the country at present. According to the Children’s Act, 2013, there are several guidelines for the trial of children and their representation in court.
The district social service office, probation officer and the officer in charge of the children’s desk in each police station have different responsibilities in the light of the law. There are several safe homes and juvenile development centers for child offenders to work. The child accused are mainly punished in those development centers till bail. The activities of the centers in the mental development of the accused are not satisfactory. The government must take concerted efforts to improve the mental development of children and turn them away from crime.
In the above discussion, it is clear that the crime rate of children and adolescents in Bangladesh has increased a lot. The easy use of mobile phones, Facebook, Twitter, tiktok addiction and acquaintances with others, involvement in immature relationships, political intrigue and drug use are misleading teenagers and young people. If we do not take the right steps now, our future generations will be in danger.

Member of Bangladesh Judiciary and Senior Judicial Magistrate, Feni
Murtaja Baseer in a wide range. We will not forget this virtue of aesthetics. Such a genius is not born all the time. He is our pride and arrogance.
The scope of his work is so wide that in one way or another we can feel his presence through work. We lost him in the crisis. I have deep respect for him. I can say without hesitation that this man with a colorful life will shine in the mirror of our memory. I think the government also needs to take special initiative to preserve his memory.
Born on 18 August 1932, died on 15 August 2020. During this long period, Murtaja Baseer, the treasure of our pride, a man of very large size, possessed a multi-dimensional industry, was gradually developed. It would not be an exaggeration to say that he was one of our most talented people.
On the one hand, he was the bearer of the latest paintings or artistic ideas of Bangladesh; On the other hand, a writer of large size. Professor Anisuzzaman left us a few days ago. Kamal Lohani has also passed away. If you write the name in this way, more names will come. The news of the eternal departure of Murtaja Baseer once again left me speechless as I mourned the loss of these loved ones.Murtaja Baseer
It is very difficult for me to describe how many times I stopped writing about Professor Anisuzzaman at the same time, how I managed to finish writing with tears in my eyes. Today I sat down to write about Murtaja Baseer but I fell into the same situation. I too am now numb with the weight of age.
Almost everyone of our time is leaving one by one, and I sit down and cry and write about each of them. How much more to write. I really can’t mourn anymore. August is the month of our mourning. Painter and writer Murtaja Baseer, who was born this August, passed away this month. I know him as much as I know him as a painter, as much as I know him as a writer.
His accent was also very nice. And that is why he is multidimensional. These areas of Murtaja Baseer had their own characteristics which will always be remembered.
Murtaja Baseer has left us in his old age. But even if some death or passing away is a hundred years old, it seems like nothing. He needed more of the country-society.
This also applies to Murtaja Baseer, whose physical presence for a while was very much needed for our overall needs. His father was a linguist. Muhammad Shahidullah: We are the children of the sun, the pride of the nation. Murtaja Baseer, the worthy son of a worthy father, was enlightened in many ways including his education.
Murtaja Baseer shone in his student life. The same glory has spread in his career. This radiance is only noticeable when evaluating him as a perfect human being. His wide range floated before his eyes. He was involved in the democratic-cultural movement of the country. He was an active member of the language movement. At one point he had to spend several months in prison in a case in the fifties. Although in the end proved innocent.
On August 15 (our National Day of Mourning) 2020, he passed away forever. Two days later was his 7th birthday. A few days ago, I heard about various complex symptoms of the lungs. There were also complications in the kidneys. In the end he was attacked by Corona. The Corona disaster has not only tarnished the world image, it has also created mountains of pain.
In addition to the loss of life, this disaster has caused a lot of wounds almost all over the world; Wounds that do not dry easily. We are not out of it either. In our society, in the economy, in the workplace, it has had a profound adverse effect. This epidemic has left its mark on the world of extreme misery, fear and panic.
We don’t know where it ends. But I believe that man will overcome this epidemic with his innovative energy and efforts. But until then, whatever the damage is going to be. Losing lives. Losing livelihood. There is a huge loss of various possibilities. The biggest loss is in life, which is nothing to feed.
Murtaja Baseer has won many medals, awards and honors including Ekushey Padak and Swadhinata Puraskar. The limits of his fame as a poet and researcher are no less wide. Despite his age, his voice was youthful. Whose voice was really unique. Many have already said that his life philosophy should be followed. Known as the screenwriter of stories, novels, poems, films, I have heard and learned a lot about his creative role even in the set design of plays.
In such a context, it seems difficult to say how many other equivalents in the world of fine arts like him. It is not easy for me at this moment to describe how many memories are floating around the impossibly lively, generous, gossipy Murtaja Baseer. Again, in the month of mourning, we lost the legend Mortaza Bashir. He has created his own industrial world.
As I wrote earlier, after the death of a person who died at the age of one hundred, it seems that he needed to live a few more days. Murtaja Baseer’s physical emptiness must be felt deeply in many ways, in many cases. But he will live among us for a long time because of his fame and creation. His keen vision has made a unique impression in every aspect of his creation. Beauty prevailed in everything she did.
This sense of beauty comes from the family. It was very natural for him to grow up in a beautiful family. He loved the people and culture of the country immensely. The overall situation of the country and society has come up in his paintings. The endless pull of the industry has made him run after work all the time. He also gave special importance to literary work.
One of my many memories surrounding him is very much remembered at the moment. Many previous events. I was then involved in teaching at Rajshahi University. At that time our Vice Chancellor was Khan Sarwar Murshid. Next to the Shaheed Minar of Rajshahi University, there is a pillar like ‘Eiffel Tower’. There is a wall behind it. It is surrounded by gardens and some relics of the liberation war.
There are also works by artists Aminul Islam, Qayyum Chowdhury, Kamrul Hasan. Murtaja Baseer has a great job going beyond the wall. He applied white cement to the walls with his own hands and created a painting with burnt bricks. I was an eyewitness to it and I lived with him almost all the time. I think it has become unique among his countless works. I wanted to know a lot by asking him detailed questions during that work.
I also received threats for this. He used to say that the artist does not have to reveal everything. The viewer has to understand. Even then he gave me an artistic explanation of this work of art. He is about six years older than me; But the heart was very deep between the two.
Absolutely like peers or friends. Would blend in very closely. His great beauty- he was very childish. His simplicity, generous response was ingrained in people’s minds. He is rooted in me with the same respect.
Many have said that he is one of the pioneers of modern fine arts or art. According to media sources, a fund will be set up in the Asiatic Society on behalf of the family to protect his memory. They are also considering financial assistance for poor and meritorious students of fine arts. Undoubtedly, all this is a good initiative and thought. Murtaja Baseer will live among us for his deeds.
There is no doubt about it.
I hope that the responsible quarters of the government will be active in this regard.
He was born on this day in 1935 in Feni, Noakhali. Different cultural and social organizations will celebrate the day through various events. These include discussions on the life and work of Zahir Raihan, documentaries and film exhibitions made by him.
Filmmaker. Zahir Raihan was one of the first group of 10 to break Section 144 on February 21, 1952. He was also directly involved in the mass uprising of 1969. At that time he was also active in various programs with the camera in hand.
He first worked with Pakistani filmmaker Zardari in 1958. The first picture is in Urdu ‘Jago Hua Sabera’. In 1964, he made Pakistan’s first color film, Sangam. His first cinemascope film ‘Bahana’ was released in 1975. In ’71, he made the black documentary ‘Stop Genocide‘.
Zahir Raihan’s other films are ‘Sonar Kajal’, ‘Kacher Deyal’, ‘Anwara’, ‘Behula’, ‘Jwalate Suruj Niche’ and ‘Jeevan To Neya’. The work of ‘Let There Be Light’ could not be completed. Published novels include ‘Last Afternoon Girl’, ‘For a Thousand Years’, ‘Another Falgun’, ‘Ice River’ and ‘How Long’.
In recognition of his outstanding contribution in these fields, he has been awarded numerous prizes and honors, including the ‘Nigar’ Film Award, the Adamji Literary Award and the Posthumous Literary Award of the Bangla Academy. On January 30, 1972, Zahirr Raihan went missing in search of Shahidullah Kaiser, a veteran journalist and intellectual. It was later learned that he was martyred in Mirpur by the anti-liberation forces. His body was not found.
